With summer finally upon us, the thought of chopping all your hair off has probably crossed your mind at least 10 times. I don’t blame you, I go through the same struggle every year. You've worked to grow out your hair for as long as you can remember, but with the sun beating down and your back and neck getting sweatier by the second, you’re ready to ditch the feeling of your locks velcro-ing themselves to your skin.

If you’re thinking of taking scissors to your thick hair, celebrity hairstylist Glen Coco—who regularly stylesmodels like Chrissy Teigen, Jasmine Tookes, Olivia Culpo, Josephine Skriver, and many more—has a few tips for you.

“For thick hair, short hair styles should really feel bouncy with not too much weight to it to make it feel really effortless,” says Coco. “Be sure to ask your hair stylist to take out weight in bulky areas, [and] add face framing layers if you feel like you need shorter hair around the face.” Though wigs are definitely an option if you’re not quite ready to commit, Coco says to keep in mind that thick wigs can often look bulky, and it’s usually just better to take the plunge and go for it.

Here are some inspiration photos for you to bring in on your next trip to the salon. Happy chopping!
