“For most people, using texturizing spray two to three times a week is just right,” Chase says. “It’s perfect for giving clean hair some grit, refreshing second-day styles, or adding extra volume before a night out.” If you have fine or oily hair, you might want to use it more sparingly, he adds. “Overuse can weigh down your strands or leave behind buildup. On the other hand, if your hair is thicker or more textured, you can likely get away with more frequent use—your hair will drink up that extra grip and volume.”
How do you use texturizing spray?
Below, Chase outlines his six-step process for using texturizing spray like a pro.
Step 1: Start with Dry Hair
“Texturizing spray is designed to work best on dry or mostly dry hair,” Chase says. “Freshly washed? Make sure your strands are completely dry before you begin.”
Step 2: Shake It Up
“Give the can a good shake,” Chase instructs. “This ensures the ingredients are evenly mixed so you get consistent texture with every spritz.”
Step 3: Spray from a Distance
Chase advises holding the bottle about eight to 10 inches away from the hair and spraying lightly, focusing on the mid-lengths to the ends. “That’s where you want the most movement and texture,” he says. “Avoid soaking your roots unless you’re using a spray made for volume there.”
Step 4: Work It In
“Once you’ve sprayed, use your fingers to scrunch, tousle, or twist sections of your hair,” Chase says. “This helps distribute the product and create that perfectly imperfect look.”

“Want more drama? Just layer in a bit more spray. Start light—you can always add more, but it’s harder to dial it back,” Chase says.
