Tonight, Ella Purnell is sharing her first Emmy nomination with the cast of Fallout, which is up for Best Drama Series. The show’s leading lady dressed like a movie star for the big night. She wore a silver Rabanne gown with a plunging neckline on the red carpet, accessorizing with silver De Beers jewels and a deep-red lip. For her hair, she opted for voluminous curls.
When the series’s 17 Emmy nominations were announced, Purnell shared her candid reaction on Instagram. “so so so so so so proud !!! 💛💙😭” she wrote.
Purnell spoke to ELLE earlier this year about Lucy, her character in Fallout, a show that’s based off the post-apocalyptic video game series of the same name. Lucy is like “Ned Flanders mixed with Leslie Knope, but she could also kill you,” the actress said. She added that over the course of the first season, the character “doesn’t surrender; shall we just say, she becomes a survivor,”
She also addressed the series Yellowjackets, where she plays Jackie, and the connection between both shows. “We shouldn’t shy away from showing women in a survivalist drama or showing women in something quite violent,” she said. “We should tell these stories, because they do exist. Women obviously have the same emotional capacity that men do.”
She is drawn to these types of scripts herself, she revealed. “At this point in my life, I really just want to get down and dirty,” she said. “I want to play gritty roles, I want to get violent and ugly and desperate.…I want to see what’s inside, not just surface level.”
