Quinta Brunson arrived at this evening’s Emmys dressed like the leading lady she is. The Best Actress in a Comedy Series nominee wore a strapless Georges Chakra couture gown on the red carpet, adorned with a couple of decorative oversized bows. She had her hair styled in a slick pixie cut—with Josephine Baker-esque curls—and accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

Brunson has a lot more than just her Best Actress nod to celebrate as the creator of Abbott Elementary. The show also received nominations in the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Directing for a Comedy Series, and Best Comedy Series categories; it also got two nods in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Brunson herself got a Best Writing for a Comedy Series nomination as well.

Brunson spoke to ELLE earlier this year about how long she sees Abbott Elementary lasting as a series. “When I first started, I was like, ‘Yeah, 10 seasons,’” she said. “Now I’m like, ‘We’ll see about that.’ That would be a blessing. But also, this is a lot of work. I want to make sure, no matter what, I get to worry not about the numbers or the money, but what kind of story we are telling and feeling when it’s time for the story to come to a close.”

Beyond Abbott, Brunson has confidence she can continue making the projects she believes in. “With all that I’ve learned, I feel like I can now do any type of television,” she said. “For womankind, for Black womankind, for people to take risks and take chances—I think that’s really what pushes things forward in life. So I hope that will be my impact.”
