Before Tom Holland got down on one knee to propose to longtime partner Zendaya, the couple made their commitment to each other permanent in another way. TMZ reports that Zendaya and Holland got matching initial tattoos in November.
Sources told the outlet that the couple went to Boston Tattoo Company on the day before Thanksgiving. (Holland actually posted photos on his Instagram Story of him and Zendaya at a Boston bar on November 24.)
People confirmed this as the outlet spoke with the tattoo artist, Lily Jarnryd, who did their designs on November 27. “They were lovely to meet and it was a lot of fun!” Jarnryd said.
People and TMZ reported that Holland got a small “z” on his ribcage, and Zendaya got a small “t” under her armpit. Her tattoo was visible at the Golden Globes, along with her engagement ring that Holland gave her over the holidays.
TMZ revealed that the actors got a slight discount on the tattoos, each paying $100. The tattoo artists said the couple, who were joined by Zendaya’s mom, seemed very in love.
Roughly a month later, Holland proposed to Zendaya between Christmas and New Year’s. A source recently told Page Six that Zendaya wasn’t expecting it. “Tom and Zendaya had discussed marriage over the years, but Zendaya had no idea he was planning to propose,” the insider said. “They both value their privacy, so the proposal was something Tom wanted to keep private as well.”
An insider told People that Holland had been “wanting to propose [to her] for a while now. He’s always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special.”
He is happy that the public knows, too. “Tom’s always had this sweet way of letting the world know that Zendaya is his,” the source shared. “Now, it’s official—she really is!”
