Doechii is back at the Grammys tonight, this time as a first-time nominee and performer. The rising artist, who last attended the award show in 2022, is nominated in three categories, including Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal, Best New Artist, and Best Rap Performance for “Nissan Altima.”

On the red carpet, Doechii showed off a chic white shirt, tie, and form-fitting grey gown by Thom Browne. “I feel incredible,” she told E! on the carpet. “I’m in Thom Browne head to toe. I feel like a doll.”

Tonight’s show marks another milestone in Doechii’s meteoric rise. Her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal has earned critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone calling it “one of the best albums of the year.” In a September 2024 interview with the magazine, Doechii reflected on the personal nature of her work, describing it as “therapy” that has helped her process life’s highs and lows.

“Before I get into a place of creating a body of work, I’m usually thinking about the life lessons that I have learned and what things I need to learn,” Doechii said in an August 2022 interview with ELLE. “As I’m making any project, I’m genuinely growing because that’s what it’s about, right?”

Over the past year, Doechii headlined her Alligator Bites Never Heal tour and collaborated with well-known musicians like Tyler, the Creator and SZA. She also made appearances at major events, including a performance at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival and a viral NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

The Tampa-born artist, nicknamed the “Swamp Princess,” has brought her Florida roots and classic, genderless style into both the music and fashion scenes. Working with stylist Sam Woolf, Doechii has crafted a unique aesthetic that often features bold silhouettes and tailored pieces from designers like Thom Browne, Miu Miu, and Saint Laurent.

In a December 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Woolf hinted at Doechii’s look for tonight’s Grammy Awards, saying, “A lot of people want to dress her, especially after Colbert and Tiny Desk. I love it because she really is it. She can sing, she can rap, she can dance, she can act, she can be in fashion—she is so talented. The Grammys for her will be a big moment, and all we can say is we’re not doing it over the top.”

Woolf also revealed more details about Doechii’s style as it reflects her personality, saying, “She knows exactly what she wants, and together, we’re creating something truly unique.” “You often expect a rap girl to be super sexy and overtly out there, and don’t get me wrong, we’ve done many sexy looks! But she’s not afraid to show skin, and she’s also not afraid to be covered up. The preppy thing was something that no other female was really doing.”
