Margot Robbie is in the midst of shedding her pastel-pink Barbie accoutrements in favor of Catherine Earnshaw’s corsets and skirts, which could explain why she wasn’t at the 2025 Met Gala tonight. The upcoming Wuthering Heights star (and new mom) was missing in action from tonight’s festivities.

Robbie and her husband, Tom Ackerley, have laid relatively low in the months since Barbie blew up. (As she joked to Deadline in January 2024, “Everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now.”) The couple attended the awards circuit together throughout much of early 2024 as they celebrated Barbie’s success, but they weren’t photographed again until July 2024, when images emerged of a pregnant Robbie enjoying a vacation with Ackerley in Lake Como. They later welcomed their son in October 2024. The Met Gala marks Robbie’s first red carpet appearance since giving birth.

In March 2025, the first photos of Robbie on the set of Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation hit the internet. As Robbie told Deadline in 2024, she purposefully “disappear[ed] from screens for a while” after Barbie, instead opting to focus on her producer responsibilities for LuckyChap Entertainment. “This is the longest I haven’t acted on a set, because we finished Barbie in October of 2022,” she said at the time. “So, it’s already been more than a year since I was on set as an actor, and other than COVID, that’s the first time that’s ever happened.”

But working with Fennell on such an iconic role as Catherine Earnshaw seems to have pulled Robbie back into another starring role. When Deadline asked if she’d ever want to act in one of Fennell’s projects, rather than just produce them, Robbie replied, “I would love to. It’s a real act of self-control not to snatch up all the roles with her scripts, because all of them are so delicious.”
