THE RUNDOWN

  • Justin Bieber sings about Hailey Bieber in his Swag track “Go Baby,” beginning the song with a shout-out to her Rhode phone case.
  • Justin reveals how he comforts Hailey behind the scenes.
  • The lyrics offer a rare look into their marriage and dynamic amid reports they have been going through a challenging time.

Justin Bieber began his Swag song “Go Baby” with a shout-out to his wife, Hailey Bieber, her famous Rhode phone lip case, and the constant online chatter surrounding their marriage. “That’s my baby, she’s iconic, iPhone case, lip gloss on it,” he sings. “And, oh my days, she keeps ’em talkin’, it’s comedy, just block it, oh, my baby.”

The rest of the song takes a more sensitive turn, shedding light on how he comforts his wife through life’s ups and downs and relentless public scrutiny. He tells Hailey, “Nothing needs to work out and nothing needs to break / Don’t need to pretend that you’re okay / So cry on my shoulder, just turn into me / Cry on my shoulder whenever you need it.” In the chorus, he adds, “Lay it all down and I can love it away, just stay by my side.”

Hailey recently spoke to Vogue about how she is trying to shut out the noise and how Justin helps her cope. “I feel like I’ve fought so hard to try to get people to understand me, or know who I am, or see me for me. And people just don’t want to sometimes,” she said. “And there’s nothing you can do about that. I’ve been in a position where I’ve tried to tell my side of a story or correct a narrative or tell the truth of a lie and then they go, Well, she’s lying. Imagine how trapping that feels.”

She reflected on her decision to ignore the commentary, saying, “I’ve learned so much from Justin, really. He’s been doing this literally since he was a child and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know. He was like, ‘Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.’”

Justin’s lyrics paint a poignant portrait of how he supports Hailey in private. Read them and listen to the song below:

Verse 1
That’s my baby, she’s iconic, iPhone case, lip gloss on it
And, oh my days, she keeps ’em talkin’, it’s comedy, just block it, oh, my baby

Refrain

When sunlight turns to shadow and it gets hard to face
Like water to a flower, babe, I know you need the rain
Nothing needs to work out and nothing needs to break
Don’t need to pretend that you're okay

Pre-Chorus

So cry on my shoulder, just turn into me
Cry on my shoulder whenever you need it
You better believe it that I can hold all the weight and shrivel inside
So cry on my shoulder, that low melody
Cry on my shoulder, I know you'll breach me
Lay it all down and I can love it away, just stay by my side, oh

Chorus

So go, baby, go, baby, go, baby
Go, baby, go, baby, go, uh
Just go, baby, go, baby, go, baby
Go, baby, go, baby, go, oh

Verse 2

Sunday to Sunday, I'm here whеn you’re weak
Coaster bеside me, it’s always okay
Every moment, you know where to find me
You don’t have to speak, I can read you (Ooh)

Refrain

When sunlight turns to shadow and it gets hard to face
Like water to a flower, babe, I know you need the rain
Nothing needs to work out and nothing needs to break (Ah, ooh)
Don’t need to pretend that you’re okay (Ah, ooh)

Pre-Chorus

So cry on my shoulder, just turn into me
Cry on my shoulder whenever you need it
You better believe it that I can hold all the weight and shrivel inside
So cry on my shoulder, that low melody
Cry on my shoulder, I know you’ll breach me
Lay you down and I can love it away, just stay by my side, oh

Chorus

So go, baby, go, baby, go, baby
Go, baby, go, baby, go, uh
Just go, baby, go, baby, go, baby
Go, baby, go, baby, go, oh (Ooh)

Outro

What you cryin’, what you cryin’ for? (Ooh)
What you cryin’, what you cryin’, what you cryin’ for? (Ooh)
What you cryin’, what you cryin’, what you cryin’ for? (Ooh)
What you cryin’, what you cryin’, what you cryin’ for? (Ooh, woah)
What you cryin’ about? (Ooh, woah)
