Sophie Turner is opening up about an awkward celebrity encounter.
During an August 14 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Game of Thrones actress recalled a chaotic moment from her early days in the spotlight.
The story began with Turner and Meyers reminiscing about meeting in San Diego when he moderated a Game of Thrones Comic-Con panel in 2015. But at the Comic-Con after-party, Turner’s night didn’t exactly go as planned. “We were in high spirits, but that night was actually quite crazy for me,” she said. “It went really south really quick.”
“I really can’t name names, or I’ll get in a lot of trouble,” she added, explaining that she was with her childhood best friend when chaos unfolded at the party.
Her friend, a fan of a certain unnamed actor who happened to also be at the event, turned to Turner and asked if she could be the one to start a conversation with him. But Turner didn’t know the actor, so she just waved at him.
Later that evening, Turner noticed a woman staring at her. “She’s a famous actress,” she said. “And I was like, ‘I have to go and tell her how much she means to me.’” So, she “danced on over.”
But as she approached her, the actress snapped and said, “Can you stop fucking flirting with my fiancé?” Caught off guard, Turner asked, “Who’s your fiancé?” The actress then pointed to the actor she had just waved at.
The simple gesture also had deeper ramifications. “Turns out, I think they broke their engagement off that night because of my [wave],” she said. “I didn’t realize I held this power.”
Who the mystery couple was remains unknown. For now, Turner’s keeping that detail to herself.
