Pride month means so many different things to different people, and there are a variety of ways to show your love and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

If you're someone who uses beauty as a form of expression, it's time to get creative and experiment with rainbow hues this Pride month, whether it's through a jazzy, colourful mani, a more permanent tribute by way of tattoos or by expressing yourself through make-up that does talking for you.

But first, a quick primer on the Pride colours: American designer, artist and gay rights activist Gilbert Baker created the Rainbow Flag back in 1978 to celebrate members of the gay and lesbian political movement. Each of the eight colours were assigned a meaning; pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for magic and art, indigo for serenity and violet for spirit. In 2018, non-binary American artist Daniel Quasar introduced the Pride Progress flag to include colours representing people of colour within the LGBTQ+ community, the transgender community and those living with HIV/AIDS. The most recent iteration also features a symbol for the intersex community.

Now that you're up to speed, it's time to pick up those brushes and create fanciful rainbow looks for this year's celebrations. From hazy watercolour tones by make-up artist Raoul Alejandre to embellished eyes, there's something here for everyone. While you're at it, why not stock up on beauty brands supporting Pride too?
