Honing your personal style is a never-ending endeavour, and a journey I believe should be cherished. As we grow and evolve, so too should our sense of identity and the clothes we use to express ourselves. I’ve always been quite tomboy in my style. I veer towards androgynous, oversized pieces – they help me to feel strong and confident. This is not to say that I’m not a girly girl; I’ve always had the mantra: make-up, dress-down. It gives me the feeling that I’m put together but with a carefree air. To me, that is the pinnacle of chic.
Tailoring has always been an essential element of my wardrobe – I like things that are clean and classic. Denim is also an important tool in my arsenal, but I like to dress it up, adding something like a silk scarf so that it feels slightly more considered. It’s about finding balance.
Another of my constants is stripes. My dad is one of my style heroes – he’s always worn striped shirts with the collar popped. I like to put my own twist on it, so instead of a crisp shirt, I might wear a striped rugby polo or even a matching striped co-ord.

Though my personal style may be ever-evolving, this season I’ve been thrilled to find pieces that reflect who I am and the way I want to dress at Tu. I’ve selected my favourite pieces from its collection – they mirror my personal style, and that make me feel confident when I’m wearing them. You’ll be able to explore the collection in person at our ELLE x Tu Style Stop, arriving at Manchester Exchange Square on 20 September and London Covent Garden Piazza on 21 September.
Below, my favourite pieces and the styling hacks I turn to over and again.
The Crochet Co-ord
There’s nothing like a matching two-piece set to instantly make you feel put together, it’s my ultimate hack for maximum impact with minimal effort. This co-ord set in crochet stripe is perfect for the warmer months.
The Summer Cardigan
This tonal look appeals to the minimalist in me – the open-front cardigan and culottes feel appropriate for work when layered with a vest, but also make for a great festival look worn with just a flash of flesh.
The Double Denim
Denim taps into my tomboy tendencies, and I love the cut of these jorts in particular. The matching indigo shirt makes for a great homage to workwear, and adding a silk scarf adds a feminine touch without overwhelming the look.
The Rugby Shirt
Nostalgic and oh-so-easy to wear, this striped rugby shirt from Tu has a beautiful, slightly cropped cut that feels timeless but also on trend. I like to tie a striped jersey around the shoulders for a graphic, fun clash of pattern.
The Kilt
A great summer uniform that works in all settings. Office appropriate when worn with a classic striped shirt, but the deep slit gives the kilt a hint of punk.
