7 Summer Sandals To Wear With Autumn's Coolest Jean Shapes To Nail Transitional Dressing

Meet your between-seasons styling formula.

It’s that rare time of year when you can wear the hallowed combination of two otherwise incompatible wardrobe staples: jeans and sandals. It’s still too balmy to even consider socks and boots but we’re getting impatient to delve into our AW wardrobes, and this feels like the perfect compromise.

So don’t put your summer sandals into storage just yet; instead, team them with Autumn 2025’s trending jeans. The straight-leg styles seen on the Prada catwalk look just as good with jelly sandals now as they will with patent loafers when it gets colder, while Chloé’s 1970s-inspired high-waisted flares make the perfect partner to Miu Miu’s lipstick-red clogs.

We’re also reluctant to part with our Y2K-inspired kitten heels and wedges – luckily, the era’s bootcut and stovepipe jeans are back, as decreed by Coperni and Isabel Marant, making between-season styling so easy. As for our beloved flip flops and mesh ballet flats, they will underpin baggy and/or asymmetric jeans excellently, keeping things the right side of breezy on those warm summer-into-autumn days.

Summer sandals and autumn jeans – it’s a thing. Read on to find your perfect pairing.

We've been waiting a long time for bootcut jeans to make a return and now’s the time. Do like they did at Coperni’s AW25 show, and choose a pair an inch or so longer than usual, so they pool around your shoes – in this case, the equally Y2K-tinged minimal wedge.

If you’ve finally caved and bought a pair of Miu Miu’s clog mules (or a pair inspired by them), you don’t need to wait until next summer to style them. Fully embrace a 1970s mood by teaming yours with high-waist flares, as seen at Chloé and Marine Serre.

All hail the leather flip flop for giving us comfort and elegance in equal measure. We love how they look peeking out from beneath low-rise, baggy jeans – like those spotted at Coach’s AW25 show.

Kitten-heel mules and skinny jeans? No, you have not accidentally time-travelled back to 2001, though the combination remains tried, true, and chicer than ever. Opt for a jean that’s a touch wider than a spray-on skinny, looking to the likes of Diesel and Isabel Marant for stovepipe style inspiration.

When Miuccia Prada says straight-leg jeans are in, we listen. For Prada’s AW25 show, the shape was styled with penny loafers; for the time being, we suggest a pair of jellies, either in kitten-heel or fisherman-sandal form.
